Walt Disney World Vacation Countdown Craft

Don’t forget to check out my holiday-themed countdown, wreath, too!

I know it’s taken a lot longer than promised, but y’all? Writing a tutorial is hard work.  I don’t know how craft bloggers do it on a regular basis. I am bowing down to you right now.  Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the steps.  It makes sense in my mind, but it may not make sense to everyone else.

So, this is a really super simple project.  If you have everything on hand and ready to go, you can complete it in less than an hour.  Seriously.  Again, the majority of the supplies I used were Stampin’Up! products. (what I wouldn’t give to be a demonstrator again. le sigh)

Walt Disney World Vacation Countdown

Here’s what you’ll need:
30 wooden clothespins
Red, Black, White, Yellow Cardstock
Tape runner
Glue Dots
Dimensional Adhesive
Crop-a-Dile (or hole punch with grommet mallet)
Grommet
Ribbon
Computer and printer
Big Shot or other cutting machine
Paper Punches
Mickey head template (I used a Home Depot paint chip)
Various Bling (optional)

Step One:
Make the numbers.  I used Stampin’Up! My Digital Studio to print the numbers.  The font is a free font called “Waltograph” I downloaded from DaFont.com.  The reason I used the SU software is because it was easy for me to line up the numbers in accordance with the circle punch size.  I use SU punches and the software helps to coordinate your digital and tactile supplies.  I love it.

Step Two:
Cut all of your shapes out.  I cut out 30 black, 15 yellow, and 15 red small scallop shapes.  I used my large scallop Sizzix die for the two large center circles and a bowl from my kitchen as a template for the main circle.  (Everything is layered. Two pieces of cardstock for the main circle, center scallop circles, and the smaller circles.  It’s much more durable this way.)  See, told ya.  Easy as pie.

I added a grommet to the large center circles after they were glued together.   You could just use a regular hole punch and thread your hanging ribbon through there, but you’re risking the cardstock tearing.  It gets heavy when all thirty clothespins are hanging on the wreath.  The grommet gives you a little extra protection.

Step Three:
Assemble.  I started with assembling the numbers.  I used a tape runner to glue together two scallops (black for all of the backs, then 15 red and 15 yellow fronts) and then attach the number to the front.  Once those are together, attach them to the top end (the part you squeeze) of the clothespin with a glue dot.  Place the glue dot on the clothespin and then press the number into the glue dot.  Glue Dots are best here, do not try to use wet glue.

Next, assemble the center circle.  I used Dimensionals to attach the layers so the center had some dimension/pop to it.  I also went ahead and blinged out Mickey a little with some Iridescent Ice embossing power and Crystal Effects.

Now it’s time for the big finale!  Adding the numbers.  To space them out evenly, I put the 1 and 15 on first and worked my way around and added the ribbon touches.

Step Four:
Hang and start counting down!  Flip the corresponding number around each morning and count your way down to your next magical vacation!  I can not wait to start ours in just a few days.  Bunny has been dying to get her hands on it, too.

Thank y’all so much for all of the wonderful response for this project.  I really enjoyed making it and I’m so thrilled you love it as much as I do.  Please let me know if you make one of your own! I would love to see the finished projects.

As much work as this all was, I think I have a few more great craft tutorials up my sleeves.  I guess I finally found my love for crafting again!

So I wanted to make sure I have everything. Some Really really great tips! Thanks! I am also going to make this wreath! My boys come up to me every day and ask Mom we’re going to go see Mickey today? (We only have 67 days left) and I was looking for a perfect countdown…. Now the boys will be able to interact with it to!!!
