In less than a week, I’ll be in sunny California, preparing to run the Dumbo Double Dare (Disneyland 10k and Disneyland Half Marathon).
As with any race, I’ve set my race goals.
My goal for the Dumbo is to finish in my worst time yet.
Yup. I’m goaling for a Personal Worst (PW), or we could call it a PR in fun. Either way.
Why? Well, to be honest, I let the end of summer vacation get the best of me. We had a revolving door of visitors, took some trips, and let our sleeping habits and diets turn to crap. I had big plans for August and fitness, and I let them slide.
And, if we’re being super-honest here (and when am I not completely honest with you?), I’m 100% ok with it. I felt some guilt, especially after I saw my corral placement and felt like I could have done better, but I let the guilt go and simply enjoyed myself for the month. It was refreshing. I needed to just let go and not be focused on times and goals. I ran when I could, cross-trained when I could, didn’t log my info into Daily Mile, and I didn’t even wear my Garmin. I was free, and it felt gooooood.
Not to mention, this is my first Disneyland runDisney race (insert 100 exclamation points here). I want photos. And a lot of them. I want to have fun and not worry about the clock (well, except for making sure I’m well under the 16 minute mile pace requirement…no sweeping this lady). I skipped so many photo ops at the Princess Half Marathon because I wanted to hit my target finish time. Not this time. I want photos with characters, with mile markers, with the Anaheim PD/FD along the city portions of the course, inside Angels Stadium, and everywhere in between. I want it all. It’s totally worth the sacrifice of a PR. I’ll save my PR’s for another time, another race, another course.
It’s runDisney, and every mile is magic, whether that mile takes you 15 minutes or seven to complete, and whether you clock your best or your worst time. That’s what makes runDisney races so unique, so magical. And that’s what makes them worth the trip to California or Florida. It’s one of the main reasons I runDisney.
What’s your goal for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend? Will you be aiming for a PR or a PW?
