30th Anniversary Special Edition of Mickey’s Christmas Carol and Winnie The Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year

Thank you to Disney for providing copies of both films for review.

Mickeys Christmas Carol and Very Merry Pooh Year Disney Blu-Ray

2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the animated classic, Mickey’s Christmas Carol and Disney has released a remastered version on Disney Blu-ray and DVD combo packs! Mickey’s Christmas Carol has always been a holiday staple in my home.

I remember renting the VHS from our local movie store every holiday season and finally getting my very own copy one Christmas morning.  I’ve also owned both the 2005 and 2009 DVD versions of the classic Christmas special.  It was only natural we’d end up owning the 30th anniversary edition.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol tells the Charles Dickens’ classic with a Disney twist with Mickey Mouse as Bob Cratchit and Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge.  (The only person to ever play the old miser better was Alastair Sim in the live-action 1951 film “Scrooge”).  Mickey’s Christmas Carol is a film which will always stand the test of time with classic Disney characters in a story beloved by generations, year after year.

The 30th anniversary edition also includes several holiday Disney shorts, including the newest short, “Yodelberg”.  My one and only complaint is the removal of the short “The Small One”, which appeared on previous DVD editions.  The kids even noticed the omission and will ask to watch it on our 2005 edition.

Another film we’re sure to watch plenty this holiday season is Winnie The Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year.

Winnie the Pooh Merry Pooh Year Blu-Ray

In the first of two episodes on the disc, the Hundred Acre Wood gang gathers at Pooh’s house to celebrate Christmas and exchange gifts.  They begin to reminisce about Christmases past and tell the story of the time Pooh played Santa, with the underlying lesson that Christmas isn’t about presents after all.  In the second episode, Rabbit learns a lesson in friendship after a series of mishaps when the gang makes some New Years Resolutions that end in his friends totally changing.  They are heartwarming stories with plenty of silliness and laughs, and suitable for even the littlest of viewers.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is the intermission.  We’re invited to get up and move with Pooh.  After all, moving around is the best way to stay nice and warm, right?

So cute!
Both of these Blu-ray combo packs would make great stocking stuffers! Or, if you’re like me, your child’s elf may be bringing them as a special early present from the North Pole so you have lots of time to enjoy them before Christmas and New Years!

Mickey’s Christmas Carol 30th Anniversary Edition and Winnie the Pooh: Merry Pooh Year are both available to own on Disney Blu-ray and Combo Packs today.
